Consumer Protection

Fiona has a very good record on lobbying for more consumer protection across Europe. She has been a key player in the European Parliament on cutting down international roaming and sms charges for mobile phones. She also brokered a deal which ensures that rural and remote areas in the North East will not miss out on new mobile satellite services (mobile broadband, mobile TV, voice and data services) operating across Europe. Fiona also took action on constituents' complaints against airlines by reporting them to the Civil Aviation Authority. She has also helped in cases over problems with time shares abroad. She has campaigned against genetically modified food and spoken out in favour of more information on food products.
