Fiona has campaigned on a number of health related issues throughout the region as well as in the European Parliament. She has joined in the fight against ward closures at Bishop Auckland Hospital and joined a demonstration against the closure of its A&E facilities in November 2008. She has called on women to attend smear tests as a preventative measure against cervical cancer and raised awareness on cancer in general at the charity run "Durham Race for Life". She has also supported campaigns to raise awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure and supports the fight for life prolonging drugs on the NHS. She has spoken out repeatedly against the NHS postcode lottery and reminds Brits going abroad to get their EU health card in order to be able to receive free healthcare. Fiona has also campaigned for more recognition, funding and research on several diseases such as Alzheimers, Diabetes, Hepatitis C and Fibromyalgia.
